U.S. President Donald Trump said
he is prepared to meet North Korean leader Kim Jong-Un for the first time in
U.S.-North Korea summit, a potentially dramatic breakthrough amid the nuclear
tensions with Pyongyang.
Kim is "committed to
denuclearisation" and to suspending nuclear and missile tests, South
Korea's National Security Office head Chung Eui-yong told reporters at the
White House on Thursday after briefing Trump on a meeting of South Korean
officials held with Kim earlier this week.
"A meeting is being
planned," Trump posted on Twitter after speaking to Chung, who
said that Trump expressed a willingness to sit with Kim is what would be his
biggest foreign policy gamble since assuming office in January 2017.
